Craft an easy and inexpensive DIY faux floral arrangement with fake water, faux flowers, & a couple of bud vases that you can use in your home decor for many seasons to come.
I was recently browsing Pottery Barn’s website and came across a faux flower arrangement with a price tag of over $300! What?!
Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that quality faux flowers can come with a hefty price tag, but this arrangement left me scratching my head.
It consisted of just three elements: a handful of faux floral stems, a simple glass jar, and fake water. That’s it. And for that, they were asking a small fortune.
Frankly, it just didn’t seem worth the money to me.
But I had a thought, why not create my own version of a faux floral arrangement with fake water at a fraction of the cost?
So, with a bit of creativity, I decided to craft my own.
Let me tell you, I was shocked at how easy and budget friendly it was to create these beautiful bud vases with faux flowers!
If you don’t want to dish out big bucks for overpriced home decor, then this blog post is for you.
I’ll show you how to achieve the look of those expensive arrangements at a fraction of the cost.

How to Make a Faux Flower Arrangement With Fake Water
With just a few simple materials and a bit of creativity, you can create a beautiful bud vase arrangement that will brighten your home decor without breaking the bank.

Step 2: Trim the Faux Flowers
Using pliers or wire cutters, trim each individual forsythia stem where the stem meets the main branch.
Before making the fake water, place the stems in the bud vases to get an idea of how you want to arrange them.
Once you have the stems arranged how you like them, make sure to remove any flowers, buds, or leaves from the stem inside the vase (you don’t want the acrylic water on them), then place the stems off to the side making sure you remember which stems go into each vase.
Pro Tip:To make faux stems look real, gently bend and twist the plastic or wire material to mimic the subtle imperfections found in nature. Pay attention to the way real stems curve and bend, and replicate those organic shapes in your faux stems.
Step 3: Make the Fake Water
Follow the instructions carefully on the acrylic water product you purchase to ensure the best results.
Once fully mixed, using a funnel, pour the resin into the bud vases making sure not to spill or splash on the surrounding glass.
Pour as little or as much of the resin mixture into each vase as you like.
Step 4: Add the Flowers to the Vases
Take the faux floral stems you put off to the side and add them to the bud vases.
Make sure the ends of the flower stems are in the “water”.
You have a good 30 minutes to play around with the placement of the flowers before the resin begins to harden.
Move the vase around to make sure the arrangement of the flowers looks good from all angles.
Place the vases in a secure spot where they won’t be disturbed, and allow the fake water to cure for at least 48 hours.
Pro Tip:The warmer the air temperature in your home, the faster the fake water will set. If you’re doing this craft in winter when your home might be on the cooler side, it may take 2-4 days for the fake water to firm up.
Once the acrylic water is firm, find the perfect spot to display your faux floral bud vase arrangement!
- Invest in realistic looking faux flowers made from high quality materials. Look for details like natural looking petals, lifelike colors, and realistic textures.
- Don’t limit yourself to using just one type of faux flower. Try mixing different varieties and colors adds depth and visual interest to your arrangement.
- Play around with the height and proportion of your faux flowers to create visual interest.
- Choose clear glass vases to showcase the faux water effect. The transparency of the vases will allow the faux water to shine and create the illusion of depth.

How can I clean my faux flower arrangement and the fake water?
Cleaning a faux floral arrangement and the fake water is simple and easy.
Dusting and spot cleaning every few weeks will help prevent dirt buildup and maintain the overall appearance of your arrangement.
- Dust Removal: Start by gently dusting the surface of your faux flowers and foliage using a soft bristled brush or a feather duster. This will remove any loose dirt, debris, or pet hair that may have accumulated on the surface over time.
- Wipe Down: Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with water and gently wipe down the leaves, stems, and petals of your faux flowers. This will help remove any stubborn dirt or residue and restore their natural shine.
- Cleaning the Fake Water: You may notice a layer of dust that will build up on the fake water over time. To clean the fake water in your arrangement, wipe down the inside of the vase with a clean lint free cloth dampened with water and pat dry with a towel.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: When cleaning your faux floral arrangement, avoid using harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners since they can damage the delicate materials and colors. Stick to mild soap and water solutions for gentle cleaning.
