Phase 1: Make your circle.
Make a circle on the back of a 1/2 inch piece of plywood. The best way to make a great circle is to consider a piece of string and connect a thumb tack on one particular close and a pen to the other conclude. Place the thumbtack in the heart of the wood and prolong the string until eventually it is limited. Draw a circle with the pencil holding the string restricted as you shift about the thumbtack.
Step 2: Stain all the dowels.
Stain the dowels different colors. You can do a gradient of hues, a rainbow of hues, random shades or even all the same coloration. I did a gradient of colours. I will be truthful, I did not realize how many dowels I would will need! haha! I needed about 70 dowels. Staining them all was fairly laborous.
Phase 3: Attach dowels to the front of the plywood.
On the front of the plywood (reverse of the circle you drew), add wood glue to the plywood in sections. Make positive the glue is all about. Start out introducing the dowels to the plywood. Make confident it covers the overall length of the sheet. Carry on introducing glue and dowels until finally the plywood is entirely covering the plywood.
Place an additional sheet of plywood on top and use clamps and weights to utilize strain to the dowels as they dry.
Phase 4: Reduce out the circle of Dowel Art.
When the glue is fully dry its time to slash the circle out. I lined the dowels in painters tape to secure them even though I slash them. I likely went a very little overboard on the tape, but I did not want them to appear off.
Then switch the wood upside down and use your jigsaw to lower the circle out. Sand the edges to clean it up. AND YOU ARE Carried out!
Tremendous simple, super easy, and impactful artwork! If you attempt it out, I would love to see it!
